A Resolution Proclaiming the Month of April as
Child Abuse Prevention Month
WHEREAS, preventing child abuse and neglect is a vital community goal that requires a
concerted and focused effort between citizens, families, social service agencies,
schools, faith communities, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies and the
business community to address this concern; and,
WHEREAS, the causes of child abuse are many and varied, nearly every incident
involves stressful situations, scarce resources, and the poor coping ability of caregivers,
all which can be addressed through an active, engaged and supportive community; and,
WHEREAS, recent incidents of child maltreatment and abuse in the New River Valley
have raised community awareness of the extent of the problem; and,
WHEREAS, every citizen should become involved in supporting families in raising their
children in a safe, nurturing environment, recognizing that the children are the future of
any community;
NOW, THEREFORE be it RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski,
Virginia sitting in regular session this 15th day of March 2016, does hereby proclaim the
month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and does call upon all citizens,
community agencies, faith groups, medical facilities and businesses to increase their
participation in community efforts to support families, thereby preventing child abuse
and neglect, and strengthening the community in which we live.
This resolution is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 15th day of March
2016 by the duly recorded vote of the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia as
follows:
