Resolution Authorizing an Application to
The Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program
WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski, with the cooperation of various community groups, is currently
reviewing concepts for potential improvements utilizing the natural resources and amenities of
the Town to create new development and recreational opportunities for the benefit of the
citizens; and,
WHEREAS, one proposed project under discussion is a connector trail between the Town and
Gatewood Park; and,
WHEREAS, the National Park Service offers technical assistance to local communities working
to develop natural resource conservation and outdoor recreation projects through their Rivers,
Trails and Conservation Assistance Program; and,
WHEREAS, following consultation with National Park Service officials, it appears the River,
Trails and Conservation Assistance Program, offers the Town the opportunity to receive
considerable technical assistance in creating a hiking trail to Gatewood Park including potential
services such as: mapping, route assessment, cost estimation, and identification of potential
funding sources;
NOW, THEREFORE be it RESOLVE® by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia,
sitting in regular session this 7th day of June 2016 that the Town Manager is hereby authorized
to submit to the National Park Service an application package with the material required by the
National Park Service for the Town's participation in the Rivers, Trails and Conservation
Assistance Program for the development of a trail from the Town of Pulaski to Gatewood Park.
FURTHER RESOLVE®, that the Town Manager is hereby authorized to submit a letter of
commitment from the Town to the National Park Service confirming its participation in the
program.
This resolution is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 7th day of June 2016 by the
duly recorded vote of the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia as follows:
