Authorizing the Preparation and Filing of an Application to the Virginia Dam Safety,
Flood Prevention and Protection Assistance Fund
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Virginia Dam Safety, Flood Prevention and Protection
Assistance Fund, it is necessary that a resolution be received from the applicant to
formally adopt a resolution requesting assistance from the Fund; and,
WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski owns and operates its own water supply reservoir and
dam known as Gatewood Reservoir; and,
WHEREAS, there exists a strong need to have.a system of advanced flood warning
stations installed along Peak Creek between the Gatewood Reservoir and the Town of
Pulaski in addition to necessary GIS upgrades for enhanced connectivity from the
Reverse 911 Systems operated by the regional emergency management authority.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski,
sitting in regular session this 4th day of April 2017 that the Council authorizes submission
of an application to the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation to consider a
request for funding from the Virginia Dam Safety, Flood Prevention and Protection
Assistance Fund for a Locality Flood Warning and Response System for the Town of
Pulaski.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town of Pulaski hereby acknowledges and agrees
to provide a minimum 50 percent matching contribution for this project with a total
estimated cost of $77,634 with $38,817 being provided by the Virginia Dam Safety, Flood
Prevention and Protection Assistance Fund and $38,817 being provided by the Town of
Pulaski as a local match.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town of Pulaski hereby acknowledges and agrees
to be responsible for maintenance and operating costs of the system after installation.
This resolution is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 4th day of April 2017
by the duly recorded vote of Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia as follows:
