Resolution Honoring the Theater Arts Department of Pulaski County High School
For Winning the Division IV State Championship
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia wishes to recognize and commend
the students and teachers of Pulaski County for their achievements and honors; and,
WHEREAS, the Theater Arts Department of Pulaski County High School, on December 5, 2017
won the Division IV State Championship for their play "You Don't Know Jack", based on traditional
Appalachian folk tales about a young mountaineer named "Jack", who despite ill -fortune and
misadventures uses his wits to always come out on top; and,
WHEREAS, this championship winning play was developed in a collaborative effort by the Theater
Arts students themselves who, wrote the script, composed the musical lyrics for the play, arranged
the songs and performed them in the play using traditional Appalachian instruments including the
bass, guitar, fiddle and mandolin; and,
WHEREAS, the combination of student talent, ability, and hard work created such a memorable
celebration of our rich Appalachian heritage that it won a third state title for the Theater Arts
Department of Pulaski County High School;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia,
sitting in regular session this 6th day of February 2018, that the Town Council does hereby extend
its sincerest thanks and congratulations to the students of the Pulaski County High School Theater
Arts Department for their exceptional effort and performance in winning a state championship for
Pulaski County High School;
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Council commends Mr. Jeff McCoy for his teaching and
mentoring of these students and for his continuing service to the students of Pulaski County High
School.
This resolution is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 6th day of February 2018 by
the duly recorded vote of the Town Council of Pulaski, Virginia as follows:
