HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-04Resolution 2019-04 Resolution Supporting a Community Impact Grant for the Calfee Community Center WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia recognizes the historic significance of the Calfee School and its importance as a revitalized community asset to serve the public as a possible location for delivering much needed childcare services, small business incubation and services, food distribution and community specific programming; and, WHEREAS, the Town Council also recognizes that Calfee School is of tremendous historical significance to the community for its legacy involving African-American education, business and community leadership on both a local and national level; and, WHEREAS, it has been identified that Pulaski County, including the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, has a need for increased childcare services based upon the lack of childcare facilities serving its workforce with a capacity of only 8.55% to care for children ages 0-6, compared to the percentage of two parent families in the work force (66.5°/x); and, WHEREAS, the Town Council has diligently established a Community Impact Grant (CIG) to be used as an instrument to provide assistance for non-profit entities and other community assets that have significant and positive community impact and leverage for both public and private resources to maximize the benefit back to the community; and, WHEREAS, the CIG will be provided to the Pulaski Redevelopment and Housing Authority in a one-time installment equal to the amount of Town taxes due in the arrears as established by the Finance Director and agreed upon by the Town Council for the purpose of acquiring the real property known as the Calfee School and all improvements thereon. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, sitting in regular session this 511 day of February 2019, that the Town Council will support the Calfee School Community Center through a Community Impact Grant to support the Pulaski Redevelopment and Housing Authority's efforts in acquiring the facility for the purpose of serving and benefitting the citizens of the Town of Pulaski and Pulaski County. This resolution is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 5th day of February 2019 by the duly recorded vote of the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia as follows: Lane R.
