A Resolution Commemorating the Life and Service of MaryLou Copenhaver
WHEREAS, the Town Council wishes to recognize those citizens whose lives demonstrated both commitment and
love for others by their faithful service to and participation in the life of our community; and,
WHEREAS, MaryLou Copenhaver was only the third woman to be elected as a member of the Pulaski Town
Council winning her seat by the largest number of votes ever received by a woman candidate for Council (1,351)
and serving on the Council from July 1, 1984 to June 30, 1992; and,
WHEREAS, during her tenure on Town Council, Mrs. Copenhaver was heavily involved in the activities of the
Council acting as the Chairperson or member of nearly every major standing committee of the Council while also
advocating the future development of the Town through her work and support of major projects underway at that
time which included: Main Street projects; urban development grant projects; boundary adjustments; and
infrastructure improvements; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Copenhaver involved herself in the life of the community as a long-time faithful member of First
United Methodist Church, serving her church for 45 years in various capacities and supporting its mission to the
community with her presence, her service and her dedication: and,
WHEREAS, despite her many achievements and contributions, Mrs. Copenhaver reserved for herself an endless
pride in and love for her family which she valued above all else; her husband Don, her children Mark and Michelle;
and her grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Copenhaver was known for her openness, friendliness and concern for all with whom she came
into contact with as a council member, church member, friend and neighbor; and,
WHEREAS, this life of faithful service to the community and her ministry of love and devotion to her family was
completed on March 19, 2020 with the passing of MaryLou Copenhaver;
NOW, THEREFORE be it resolved by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, sitting in regular session
this 7th day of July 2020, that the Town Council does hereby extend its highest commendation for the life and
service of MaryLou Copenhaver to her community, her friends, and her family.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town Council extends both its heartfelt condolences and its admiration and
respect to the family of MaryLou Copenhaver for their faithful love and care of their beloved wife, mother and
grandmother.
This resolution is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 7th day of July 2020 by the duly recorded vote
of the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia as follows:
