A Resolution Recognizing the Service and Career of Chief Gary W. Roche
Upon His Retirement from the Pulaski Police Department
WHEREAS the Town Council of the TownofVirgin a,. esires to commend and recognize those
retiring employees who have given of their tirne;:talents and`;abilities; in a career of service to their community
and its citizens; and, f '
WHEREAS, Chief Gary W. Rocn' ;Degan his career.with the HarrisonbufdRdlice Department in 1976; moving
to the Roanoke County Sheriff's_ "Office in 1978 as a`deputy sheriff and in his career with that organization
held every major position until his appointment as Commanding Officer of the Special Operations Division;
and

WHEREAS, in 2001 Chief Roche•was hired as -the Chief of,.Police for the ,Pulaski Police Department where he
instilled in the department a high degree of preparedness and. professionalism culminating in the department
receiving full accreditation from.the' Virginia Law Enforce mer_it;Professional Standards;Committee; and;
WHEREAS, during ,his•car..eer_,,-,Chief Roche has amassed a staggering amount'of academic and professional
honors including Bachelors' and Master's`Degrees in the'Admmistration of Justice from VCU and Radford
University; a commendation from the Roanoke County' Ghief of Police for his performance at the F.B. I. Acad-
emy; and a first place=award in the Virginia Law• Enforcement,Ch&.4"`-Challenge in 200.1; and,
WHEREAS, Chief Roche also involved himself in community-antl'volunteer•activities�serving as chairman for
multiple Police Chief's.'Associations, participating in:community organizations such as the Pulaski Community
Partners Coalition and the, Governor's.Mental_Health:Working Group,#and f
WHEREAS, Chief Gary W. Roche. after a`remarkable 45 year careeYr, in' law enforcement, which included 20
years as Chief of Police for the Pulaski,Police Department; will officially:retire on June 1, 2021;
NOW, THEREFORE be it RESOLVED`by the Town Council. of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia sitting in regular
session this 18th day of May 2021; that the Town Council''does-herebyextend its. -highest commendation and
thanks to Chief Gary W Roche for_hisservice to°the Town'of:P.ulaski-Police Department and for his lifelong
service and commitment to the preservation.: of -the peace, safety and life of all citizens.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that -'thee Town Council ,and the empldyees-of the Town of Pulaski wish Chief
Roche well in his retirement,,and saluthim for an incredible - a
creer.
