Council I~dinutes Pulaski, Va., March 7, 1939
The Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia met in
monthly session tonight at 7:30 P. M, at the Ddayor~s office.
PRESENT There were present: Mayor E. Vd. Calfee, presiding;
Lottie R. Runion, clerk; A. ~~1. Gatewood, Director of Public
Works, and Councilmen: T. J. 4Yallner, A. T. Eskridge, J. E.
Bunts, F. A. Seagle, T. L. James, A. M. Bushong and G. C.
Hall. Abeent: L. E.V`dhitesell.
MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting held on February
7, 1939 were read and approved.
BILLS & A detailed statement of the regular bills and
PAYROLLS payrolls for the month of J$ry was audited, approved and
on motion duly made, seconded and unanimously passed,
ordered paid. Said bills are given at the conclusion
of these minutes.
BUILDING The follovring building permits, coming within the
PERMITS requirements of the ordinance yYere granted: To. Pulaski
County School Board for a one-story brick cottage for
Home Economic Department, on the south side of 4th Street,
north, to cost ~9,000.00.(Between Jefferson and Randolph
Avenues.l to L. W. Hanson for addition to frame dwelling
on the south side of 4th street East Pulaski, at Nev~rbern
Road, to cost ~~50.00; to Harvey Byrd for rock and con-
crete remodelling of porch at his dwelling on the west
side of Jefferson Ave., South to cost X100.00; to T. A.
Douthat for metal boiler room on the south side of Commerce
Street, to cost X20.00; to F. Dent for interior remodelling
of dwelling on east side of Washington Ave., north, to cost
X350.00.
PETITION R. M. Hurst appeared before the Council presenting

a petition requesting improvements on Floyd Avenue,includ-

MENTS ing hard surface street, sewerage connections, fire plug
and light, which on motion duly made, seconded and unanimous-
ly passed, was referred to the various committees for inves-
tigation and report.
PETITION A petition presented by property owners on lower
DORA HY. Dora Highway for sewer extension was filed for considera-

J.V`d. FAGG J. ~d. Fagg, through his attorney, requested the
PURCHASE Tovm to sell him a portion of a lot in East Pulaski
of Lot
heretofore acquired by the Town for changing the lo-
cation of Newbern Road. On motion duly made, seconded
and unanimously passed, the Mayor was authorized to
make the sale of the lot at a price to be agreed upon
by him and Mr. Fagg, provided the Town has the legal
right to sell.
BEER & WINE R. L. Jordan, attorney at law, appeared before
SUNDAY the Council presenting a petition opposing the passage.
of an ordinance prohibiting the sale of wine and beer
in the Town of Pulaski on Sunday. Upon consideration
and discussion by the Council, it is the sense of this

~~ y p prohibiting the sale of
~ wine and beer on Sunday, unless the same kind of ordinance
were effective all over the entire County, the purposes
sought by the petitioners asking for such ordinance would
be defeated and of no effect. a'
RESOLUTION In view of the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone
C.& P. Companyts plans to rebuild and improve the system in the

CO. unanimously passed, the following resolution was passed:
WHEREAS, the Chesapeake ~ Potomac Telephone
Company contemplate rebuilding and improving the Telephone
System in the Town of Pulaski,
BE IT RESOLVED THAT said Telephone Company be
requested to place under ground the telephone lines and
to remove the telephone poles on Washington Avenue from
Commerce Street to Fifth Street, Norte, and on Second ~'

Street, North from Madison Avenue to Randolph Avenue.
