June 22, 2023
Mayor Collins called the Meeting to Order at 6:02 p.m. Present were Vera Carter, Marcie Worrell, Constance Patterson, and John Seagle.
Also, in attendance were Austin Painter, Nathan Smythers, Jackie Morris, and Darlene Burcham.
Mr. Seagle asked for clarification regarding the contribution of the town.
Ms. Burcham stated the amount was for two years and the contribution for 2023 had not been taken.
Ms. Carter asked how frequently insurance was paid.
Ms. Morris stated the insurance is yearly and it will be paid in July.
The minutes from February 23, 2023 were unanimously approved on a motion made by Ms. Worrell and seconded by Ms. Patterson.
Finance Director, Jackie Morris, provided the financial report showing balances in the checking account and the CD as well as expenditures and a balance of $183,383.09 as of May 31,
2023.
Ms. Burcham reported the council’s approval of the changes to the cemetery ordinance and the changes in fees as requested by the cemetery board. She stated letters to the funeral homes
will be going out notifying of the changes effective July 1, 2023.
Mr. Smythers reported the repair of the wall at Oakwood Cemetery would be $6,000 as previously quoted from the contractor. The repair would include the rock repair and footers placed.
The contactor would reconstruct all portions of the wall that are not salvageable.
Mr. Seagle asked for the tree limbs at the front entrance of Oakwood Cemetery be trimmed back.
The amount of $6,000 to repair the rock wall was unanimously approved on a motion made by Ms. Worrell and seconded by Mr. Seagle.
Ms. Carter stated the damaged sign at Pinehurst hasn’t been removed and there is a tree that has been struck by lightening that needs to be looked at.
Mr. Seagle stated he removed the overgrowth on the walls at Oakwood and asked for that to be looked at to approve the appearance of the cemetery.
All in attendance agreed that the next meeting would be on October 19, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.
The mayor adjourned the meeting at 6:26 p.m.
